Content Officers are responsible for creating engaging Youtube videos related to, but not limited to, current / past issue articles, Evening With Neuroscience, and overall Grey Matters Journal representation. They focus on the online Youtube image of Grey Matters Journal.
The Finance Officer oversees Grey Matters’ financial operations, including budgeting, fundraising, and managing fund flow. This three- to four-year role is intended for freshmen or sophomores, who will train for one to two years under the current Finance Director before assuming the position in their junior or senior year. This structure ensures continuity, stability, and strong recordkeeping within Grey Matters’ financial management.
A Journal Club Officer will assist the Journal Club Coordinator in planning and facilitating bi-weekly Grey Matters Journal Club meetings. Responsibilities will encompass Journal Club Coordinator responsibilities, though are acted upon when requested by the Journal Club Coordinator. This position is freshman friendly, though prioritizes those who have experienced Journal Club before.
The Marketing Officer at Grey Matters is responsible for expanding the journal’s visibility and engagement on and off campus. This role involves coordinating flyer and volume distribution, managing marketing logistics through shared forms, reaching out to various hospitals and research institutions, and maintaining an up-to-date emailing list for outreach. The Marketing Officer also assists with promoting events and organizing catering logistics for journal release parties and speaker sessions.
The Podcast Officer plays a key role in producing and promoting episodes for the Grey Matters Podcast. Responsibilities include planning content, coordinating with hosts and guests, recording and editing audio, and ensuring brand consistency. The role also involves writing episode descriptions, managing publishing schedules, and collaborating with Social Media, Marketing, and Content branches to maximize reach and engagement.
The Outreach Coordinator assists the Outreach Director in organizing and executing outreach initiatives for Grey Matters Journal. This role focuses on coordinating free neuroscience outreach events at K–12 schools across western Washington, including activities such as sheep brain dissections, neurotechnology demonstrations, and college student panels. Outreach Coordinators play a key role in maintaining communication, organizing members, and fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment aligned with Grey Matters’ mission of accessibility and education.
Outreach Members support Grey Matters’ neuroscience outreach through event participation at high, middle, and elementary schools and engagement at weekly meetings.
Small Events Coordinators (SEC) are meant to fill the gaps left by the event coordinators. Event Coordinators will largely be busy with Dawg Daze and EWN, so other events like fundraising, socials, and some general forms of outreach may be overlooked. SEC has the authority to determine what events the RSO will participate in and to what degree, but some events we generally participate in have been listed. SEC is able to collaborate with other leadership on any projects they want to make happen.
The Social Media Officer is responsible for creating promotional materials across Grey Matters’ social media platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. They are core to the digital presence of the organization and expanding our presence both on and off-campus. This is a great position for anyone with creative aspirations in the organization and enjoys experimentation.
The store manager leads the store team in the production of Grey Matters merch and our journal issues. They also work with the finance team to keep track of inventory and sales and marketing team to organize advertisements of GM products.
